RaΓΊl is considered one of the greatest strikers of all time, wearing the number π jersey for most of his career, playing primarily as a central striker. He became captain of the national team in 2012 and retired from international football in 2016.
One of the most successful players in the history of the Champions League, RaΓΊl won the UEFA Forward of the Year award for three consecutive years (1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002) and was the top scorer in 1999-2000 and 2001-2002. He was also named the world's top scorer by the ππ§πππ«π§πππ’π¨π§ππ₯ π ππππ«πππ’π¨π§ππ₯ π π¨π¨ππππ₯π₯ ππ’π¬ππ¨π«π² & πππππ’π¬ππ’ππ¬ in 1999.
Other awards include 2 La Liga top scorers, 5 Ballon d'Ors and the 1998 International Cup best player awards. In 2004, he was named in the FIFA 100 list of the best players in the world and was included in UEFA's 50 Best European Players of the 1950β2004 period. He was also included in the European Sports Media's European Team of the Year in 1997, 1999 and 2000.
Raul is one of the few players to have never been out of the Champions League, despite playing over 1,000 games for the Reds. He was also known for his leadership and hard work.
