History and Memory of the FIFA Ballon d'Or

The FIFA Ballon d'Or (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is a special award given to the best goal scored in a football match during the year. The FIFA Ballon d'Or was established in 2009 and is voted on by fans and experts to select the best and most beautiful goal of the year.
The FIFA Ballon d'Or is an award given in honour of Hungarian football legend Ferenc Puskas. Ferenc Puskas is considered one of the greatest goalscorers of the 20th century. Puskas played for Real Madrid and Hungary in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1997, he was named the top scorer of the 20th century, scoring 806 goals in 793 appearances. He scored 86 goals in 90 appearances for his national team. Puskas is a notable figure who has received many awards. The Puskas Award is awarded to the best goal scored in the world, and is awarded in categories such as long-range goals, team goals, robona goals, reverse kicks, individual goals, and scorpion kicks. The Puskas Award is not awarded by competition or country, but rather by all goals scored in all official football matches around the world.
The award was first presented in 2009 and has been awarded for over 15 years, with the first winner being Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo won the award for his 40-yard strike against Porto in the 2008-09 Champions League when he was at Manchester United. In Ronaldo's later years, Turkish player Hamit Eltin won the award in 2010, while Neymar won it while playing for Santos in 2011. In 2012, Serbian player Miroslav Stoke of Fenerbahce won the award, while in 2013, Swedish striker Ibrahimovic won the award for a 35-yard backheel against England. In 2014, Colombian striker Hamed Rodriguez won the award for a curling shot from the edge of the penalty area against Uruguay in the World Cup, and in 2015, Van der Leyra won the award in a Brazilian league match. The year in which the award was won was the first time it was won by an Asian player. In 2016, Penang's Molfetch Sabry scored a free kick in a Malaysian Super League match. The goal was wide of the goal from a distance. It was a proud moment for both the Malaysian league and the country. In 2017, Giroud won the award for his goal against Crystal Palace. The 2018 award was won by Mohamed Salah's controversial goal against Everton. In fact, Ronaldo won the award that year with a back kick against Juventus. The winner in 2019 was Daniel Suri of Debrecen, who scored the winning goal from the 18-yard line in the 93rd minute of the match in the Hungarian league. In 2020, the winner was Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, who scored a solo goal from half-way up the pitch against Burnley at home. In 2021, the winner was Lamela of Tottenham Hotspur, who scored a goal from a Robona shot against Arsenal. In 2022, the winner was not a regular player, but a back kick by Martin Oleski of the Polish Paralympic Games. The winner in 2023 was a back kick by Botafogo's Madrugga from the edge of the area in the Brazilian Serie B. The 2024 winner of the award was Manchester United youngster Garnacho, who scored a back-heel goal against Everton.
The FIFA Ballon d'Or will run for 15 years from 2019 to 2024, and will be awarded to the best goals scored in international competitions around the world. The award is given to men, not women. FIFA will therefore introduce a women's Ballon d'Or award from 2024, named the 𝐅𝐢𝐟𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝. It is an award given in honour of Brazil legend Mata. Now, FIFA's best goal is awarded to the best player in the world.
